Proof
no-one believed me when I said there was a child with this name at my daughter's school. Well there is. Pronunciation guide is tatooed to said child's head.

No. No. No. This is in my house. I feel violated.

Aaarghh sky's a funny colour
It really is that long since we have had nothing but gloves and hat weather that you can't blame us for treating today like the height of summer. Nurseries were packed, we all wore t shirts and ice cream vans got to charge us 3 quid a pop for some goop in a stale cone.

Cake
To reward myself for getting all my marking up to date I spent some time making cup cakes with my daughter. Now you might assume that it's because I worked with a 2 year old that they look nothing like they do on the box. Believe me when I say it's because of her that they're even this close.

No more flipping splinters
Finally we have carpet. Miserable crone next door had a face like thunder while it was being done. She should be happy though; maybe it was the squeaky stair treads that made her dog howl incessantly. Still need to do bed3/office and basement but this means we now have 3/4 complete house with most of it actually useable.

Cheapskate stair carpet
I am feeling pleased with myself. We bought a bunch of carpet samples for 20p each for Inaya to use as toy beds (it's the cardboard box phenomenon: we do buy toys too). They are almost exactly stair tread width so I thought I'd tidy the basement stairs. These photos are before, during and after. Cost about 4 quid.

A day at nanny's
God knows we needed some sun. Blinking and dazed we left our hibernation burrows to find that sun doesn't necessarily mean warm. Even so, we made the effort and the strain of being cooped up indoors was somewhat ameliorated by being cooped up first in the car, then at Nanny's house, then in the car again.
On another note I glimpsed a headline on the way back that suggested Sunderland fans are protesting against Fascist DiCanio. Well done people. Some things are more important than blind loyalty to your team. Not much I know but this is one of those times.

Back to blogger
Oh man... I posted from Posterous but you were always there waiting until the upstart, flashy new boy got his comeuppance. That day has come. It's good to be back.
